The Ministry of Education has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to locate, arrest and prosecute the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher who remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was announced.
The teacher went into hiding after a viral video allegedly showed him engaging in inappropriate conduct involving a female student, leading to his interdiction and widespread public outrage.
In a statement signed by Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry expressed concern over the delay in apprehending the suspect.
The Ministry noted reports that the teacher had recently granted an interview in which he claimed his actions were unintentional and reportedly requested a transfer to a village school.
“Indeed, the emergence of a statement attributed to him, asking for a transfer to a village school, should be enough of a clue for the Police to track him down,” it stated.
The Ministry urged the Police to deploy additional measures, including digital tracking, to locate the fugitive teacher, insisting that available evidence suggests his actions were deliberate.
It further alleged that authorities had come across other videos showing the teacher engaging in similar conduct with other girls believed to be students.
According to the Ministry, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has described the incident as “unacceptable, shameful, and inconsistent with the values and standards expected of members of the teaching profession.”
The Ministry also announced plans to convene a National Dialogue on rising indiscipline in schools as part of efforts to strengthen discipline and improve learning environments across the country.
