Emergency healthcare delivery in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region has received a boost following the opening of a new Accident and Emergency Ward at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital.
The facility was opened by the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, as part of efforts to improve access to timely and quality emergency healthcare in the district.
The new ward is equipped with patient-monitoring systems, infusion equipment and other essential clinical tools to support the assessment, stabilisation and monitoring of patients requiring emergency care.
It complements the hospital’s existing 24-hour emergency service, as well as diagnostic and clinical services including laboratory testing, X-ray, ultrasound and surgical care.
Speaking at the opening, Mrs Awatey said the facility would improve access to emergency medical services for residents across the district, particularly those in communities where distance and transportation challenges often delay access to healthcare.
She said strengthening emergency care infrastructure was critical to ensuring that patients receive prompt medical attention when faced with life-threatening conditions.
The Regional Minister commended the District Chief Executive, Kate Mawusi Babanawo, for her commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and supporting initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of residents.
She expressed the hope that the new ward would contribute to better emergency outcomes and improve the quality of healthcare available to residents of the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.
