The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications has presented laptops to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to support the nationwide rollout of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).

The presentation ceremony, held on Friday, April 10, 2026, forms part of efforts to equip the initiative with the necessary digital tools for effective implementation across the country.

The OMCP is a flagship national programme aimed at building digital skills among Ghana’s youth, improving employability, and positioning the country within the global digital economy.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, reaffirmed government’s commitment to digital transformation and inclusive access to technology.

He stressed the importance of collaboration, noting that strategic partnerships and institutional backing are key to achieving the programme’s objectives.

The Minister also revealed that nearly a year after the programme was launched by President John Dramani Mahama, a dedicated team had been tasked to assess its implementation, producing a report to guide the training phase.

He highlighted the programme’s focus on job creation, stating that it is designed to open up employment opportunities for participants.

According to him, 130 centres have already been established nationwide, with each region hosting modern training facilities, while 12 universities have been integrated into the initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The laptops presented by GIFEC are expected to support training, coordination, and operational activities as the programme expands.

GIFEC noted that the intervention aligns with its mandate to promote digital inclusion and expand access to electronic communication, particularly in underserved communities.

The national rollout of the One Million Coders Programme is expected to accelerate Ghana’s digitalisation agenda and equip a new generation with relevant technology-driven skills.
