The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has assured members of the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) that the long-delayed 2025/2026 Book and Research Allowance will be paid by the end of September 2026.
Mr. Iddrisu said the necessary steps had been taken to facilitate payment to eligible lecturers, with data covering about 8,000 TUTAG members submitted to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department.
He gave the assurance on Wednesday, September 16, during a media briefing, following concerns raised by TUTAG over delays in the payment of the allowance.
According to the Minister, lecturers whose details have already been captured could receive the allowance alongside their September salaries.
“We directed GTEC to provide data to the Controller and Accountant-General and I am happy to note that some of you will receive your Book and Research Allowance in your September salary. Those of you who have had your data captured will receive it.
“We are committed to honouring all and as of the close of work yesterday [Tuesday, September 15], I spoke to the Controller and Accountant-General and he said he has entered data for up to 8,000 persons.”
The Book and Research Allowance is intended to support academic staff with expenses related to books, research and other scholarly activities.
The delayed payment had raised concerns among TUTAG members, with the association threatening to embark on industrial action if the outstanding allowance was not paid.
