Football administrator Herbert Mensah has advised Ghanaians known for their generosity and kindness to exercise caution and consider reducing how much they give to others.
In a Facebook post, Mr Mensah urged generous individuals to “minimise your generosity & kindness,” warning that people may not always remember or appreciate the support they receive.
According to him, some beneficiaries quickly forget the assistance they receive and may turn against those who once helped them when their circumstances change.
“People nowadays have no memory,” Mr Mensah wrote, adding that when the “giver” becomes financially disadvantaged, the same people who benefited from their generosity may “gossip & laugh.”
His comments highlight concerns about the way acts of kindness and financial support can sometimes be taken for granted, particularly when the fortunes of the person providing the assistance change.
Mr Mensah’s advice appears to be a caution to individuals to be measured in their generosity and to avoid putting their own financial wellbeing at risk while helping others.
