Ghana and Mozambique are exploring the possibility of strengthening legal cooperation through formal agreements on extradition, the transfer of convicted persons and mutual legal assistance.
The discussions took place at the Attorney-General’s Department and Ministry of Justice when the Deputy Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, received Mozambique’s Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Mateus Finiasse Saize, at The Law House on behalf of the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
The meeting focused on proposals by the Mozambican government for the two countries to establish formal arrangements in three key areas: extradition, transfer of convicted persons and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
According to the Deputy Minister, the proposed agreements are intended to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in tackling cross-border crime and enhancing law enforcement collaboration.
The Deputy Minister noted that issues relating to extradition, international criminal investigations and the transfer of convicted persons have become increasingly important as countries work together to combat transnational crimes.
The Mozambican delegation was led by Mr Saize and included Mozambique’s High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Fortunato Albrinho.
