The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has banned a man accused of facilitating attestation services from its premises.
The Ministry said the man is not an employee of the Ministry.
His case follows an undercover investigation by The Fourth Estate into attestation services at state institutions. The report was published on September 2, 2026.
The Ministry said it acted after receiving a report on the investigation.
According to the Ministry, the man has been sanctioned by his institution. He has also been reported to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“The said gentleman has also been prohibited from entering the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
The Ministry has also reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on middlemen.
It said individuals who charge citizens to facilitate attestation services have no official mandate to do so.
“The Ministry’s Management condemns the reported practice of unscrupulous middlemen without any official link to the Ministry whatsoever, who take advantage of vulnerable citizens.”
The Ministry said the attestation process involves several government institutions. It added that work has been ongoing to improve coordination between these institutions.
The Ministry also disclosed that reforms to its consular and attestation services began before The Fourth Estate investigation.
These reforms include cashless payments and digital platforms for the attestation process.
The goal is to reduce human interaction and make the service more transparent and efficient.
“We are confident that these reforms will produce desirable outcomes similar to what we have achieved with Passport Administration in Ghana.”
The Ministry has also reminded the public that the approved attestation fee is GH¢200.
The fee is collected by officials of the Controller and Accountant-General, who issue official receipts.
“No one should engage the services of middlemen — it is strictly illegal.”
The Ministry has urged the public to avoid anyone who claims to be an agent or middleman for attestation services.
Citizens with complaints or information can contact the Ministry on +233 240 913 284 or +233 240 793 072. They can also email info @mfa.gov.gh.
