The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, has urged Ghanaians to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings following the recent floods that affected parts of Accra and other coastal communities.
Mr. Sarpong made the call during a national clean-up exercise organised in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to clear waste, desilt drains and restore communities affected by the floods.
He expressed concern over the impact of the flooding on affected residents and extended his sympathy to individuals and families who suffered losses.
The GRA Commissioner-General said the Authority’s participation in the exercise reflects its commitment to national development and its desire to lead by example in promoting environmental sanitation.
He noted that the mandate of the GRA extends beyond revenue mobilisation, adding that the Authority also has a responsibility to support initiatives that improve the well-being of citizens and contribute to a cleaner Ghana.
Mr. Sarpong therefore encouraged individuals, communities and institutions to actively participate in sanitation efforts to help prevent future flooding and create a healthier environment for all.
