A tragic armed robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus has claimed the life of 20-year-old forward Dominic Frimpong, sending shockwaves across Ghana’s football community.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Bibiani–Goaso highway in the Ahafo Region, as the team returned from a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex 1996 in Samreboi, where they suffered a 1–0 defeat.
According to club officials, the team bus was ambushed by armed men who blocked the road and opened fire, forcing players and staff to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby bushes for safety. Several members of the team sustained injuries during the chaos.
Frimpong, who was on loan from Aduana Football Club, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In a statement, Aduana FC described the incident as devastating, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a player they had loaned out earlier this year. The club noted that Frimpong’s death represents a significant blow not only to both teams but to Ghana football as a whole.
The Ghana Football Association also condemned the attack, describing the player’s death as a profound loss to the sport. The Association extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured that it is working closely with the police as investigations continue.
Frimpong had made a notable impact during his loan spell, scoring two goals in 13 appearances this season.
