Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has expressed his gratitude to the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, for his encouragement and support during Ghana’s campaign at the just-ended FIFA World Cup.

The goalkeeper described the Mayor as a father and brother, saying he deeply appreciated the confidence and backing he received throughout the tournament.

Benjamin Asare made the remarks on Monday when he paid a courtesy call on the Accra Mayor at City Hall to formally thank him for rallying public support behind him and the senior national team.

He said he believed his rise to become Ghana’s number one goalkeeper was part of a divine plan, noting that one could never predict the person God would use to support them at critical moments in life.

According to him, representing Ghana at the highest level had always been his dream and he remained committed to making a meaningful contribution to the country through football.

The goalkeeper disclosed that although he was unable to pursue the level of formal education he had hoped for, he never abandoned his ambition of serving Ghana as a member of the Black Stars.

He said his experience with the national team had exposed him to the immense love and support Ghanaians have for him, pledging to continue giving his best whenever he is called upon to represent the country.

Benjamin Asare also prayed for strength and success for himself and his teammates, expressing confidence that he could continue to rely on the guidance and support of the Mayor and other well-meaning Ghanaians.

Welcoming the goalkeeper, Michael Kpakpo Allotey praised his abilities and expressed hope that he would secure opportunities with top international clubs.

The Mayor urged Benjamin Asare not to forget his roots and the role played by Accra Hearts of Oak in his development should he achieve greater success in his football career.

He recalled that Hearts of Oak had previously produced legendary goalkeeper Sammy Adjei, whom he described as one of Ghana’s finest goalkeepers, and expressed optimism that Benjamin Asare could follow a similar path with the right opportunities.

Hon. Allotey said the goalkeeper’s emergence as the preferred choice for the Black Stars was a sign of destiny, adding that no one could prevent an individual from succeeding when the time was right.

He commended Asare’s performances, stating that his presence in goal had given Ghanaians confidence and renewed hope whenever he featured for the national team.

The Mayor compared the confidence supporters have in Asare to the reputation of former German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, who was known globally for his commanding presence and exceptional goalkeeping abilities.

Hon. Allotey further proposed a follow-up meeting with Benjamin Asare and his management team before Friday to explore possible areas where the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and other stakeholders could support his career development.

He welcomed the goalkeeper to the Assembly, assuring him that while Accra Hearts of Oak remained his first home, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly would also serve as his second home.
