Deputy Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Aggrey, has underscored the importance of culture and heritage as powerful drivers of tourism development during the official launch of FanteFest 2026 in the United Kingdom.
The launch event was held at the British Council in London ahead of the festival, which is scheduled to take place from September 25 to 27, 2026, at London City Hall.
Addressing participants at the ceremony, Mr Aggrey described festivals as critical tools for destination branding and cultural diplomacy, noting that they also serve as platforms for economic empowerment, diaspora engagement and sustainable community development.
He stressed that promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage through international festivals can strengthen the country’s tourism appeal while deepening ties with Ghanaians living abroad.
Mr Aggrey also paid tribute to prominent Fante nationalists, including Jacob Wilson Sey and Paa Grant, for their contributions to Ghana’s struggle for independence and national development.
According to him, the vision, patriotism and leadership demonstrated by the two statesmen continue to inspire generations and remain an important part of Ghana’s historical heritage.
The GTA Deputy CEO commended the organisers of FanteFest for their efforts in projecting Fante culture onto the global stage and creating opportunities to celebrate Ghana’s cultural diversity internationally.
FanteFest 2026 is expected to bring together members of the Ghanaian diaspora, cultural enthusiasts, investors and tourists to celebrate Fante traditions, heritage, music, cuisine and arts while promoting Ghana as a leading cultural tourism destination.
