The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to repatriate the body of Mr. Bashiru Isak, the Ghanaian who was killed during recent anti-immigration violence in South Africa, to Ghana for burial.
In a public advisory, the Ministry expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting them during this difficult period.
The Ministry also urged Ghanaians residing in South Africa, particularly those who did not take part in the government’s voluntary repatriation exercise, to remain vigilant and avoid areas considered high-risk amid ongoing tensions.
It advised citizens who find themselves in danger to immediately contact the Ghana High Commission in South Africa through its 24-hour emergency hotlines for assistance.
According to the Ministry, the Government of Ghana will continue to pursue diplomatic, consular and multilateral efforts to safeguard the lives and welfare of Ghanaians living abroad.
The Ministry further assured the public that it would work closely with the relevant South African authorities to ensure the safety of Ghanaian nationals and to help prevent similar attacks in the future.
