The government has commenced construction of the 3.5-kilometre Ekye-Amanfrom Bridge across the River Afram as part of its flagship Big Push infrastructure programme aimed at improving connectivity and unlocking the economic potential of the Afram Plains.
Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a Facebook post said the project is expected to end decades of isolation experienced by residents of the Afram Plains, who have long relied on water transport to access other parts of the country.
According to him, the bridge will provide a permanent link across the River Afram, improving the movement of people, goods and services while opening up the area’s vast agricultural potential to national markets.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu described the project as a key component of the government’s Big Push Programme, which seeks to deliver strategic infrastructure investments to stimulate economic growth and improve livelihoods across the country.
He said the bridge would enhance transportation, support farmers by improving access to markets, and promote socio-economic development in the Afram Plains and surrounding communities.
The Minister noted that the project reflects government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that connects communities, boosts agricultural productivity and promotes inclusive national development.
He added that the Ekye-Amanfrom Bridge is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic transformation in the area by reducing travel challenges and creating new opportunities for trade and investment.
