The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), in partnership with GLE Connect, has engaged thousands of Senior High School (SHS) graduates at the fourth edition of the Leavers Party in the Park in Accra, using the youth-focused event to promote healthcare awareness and access to health insurance services.

The event, which brought together young people for a celebration filled with music and entertainment, also served as a platform for the NHIA to educate participants on the importance of healthcare financing, preventive healthcare, and maintaining active membership on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

As part of efforts to make NHIS services more accessible to the youth, the Authority established four registration points at the event where participants were able to register for the scheme and renew their memberships free of charge.

The registration centres recorded significant interest from students, many of whom took the opportunity to secure their NHIS membership ahead of their transition into tertiary education.

The NHIA delegation at the event included Director of Corporate Affairs, Oswald Essuah Mensah; Deputy Director for Marketing and Branding, Angela Asiedu; senior managers and officials from the Authority, as well as staff from the Ayawaso, La and Kpeshie District Offices who supported the outreach programme.

Speaking during the activation, Ms. Angela Asiedu described the initiative as successful, noting that many participants had visited the NHIA stands to either register or renew their NHIS cards.

“So far, the activation has been good. Many of the attendees have visited our stand to register or renew their NHIS membership cards. Registration is free,” she said.

The NHIA said its participation in the Leavers Party in the Park forms part of its broader commitment to reaching young people with health education, promoting preventive care and ensuring that more Ghanaians remain covered under the NHIS.

The Authority reiterated that engaging communities, especially young people, remains central to its efforts to improve awareness and increase access to quality healthcare services nationwide
