The police have arrested two young men at the Ashaiman Roundabout after they were found in possession of a quantity of automobile spare parts suspected to have been stolen.
The suspects, identified as John Atsu and Puplampu Jonathan, were apprehended in the early hours of June 16, 2026, during a routine police patrol operation in the area.
According to police reports, a patrol team led by Chief Inspector Prosper K. Amponsah intercepted a taxi cab carrying several automobile parts at about 2:55 a.m.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a box containing clutch boosters, two boxes of fuel injectors, two boxes of mounting top lights, and a pair of headlights.
Police said the suspects were unable to provide satisfactory explanations or documentation to establish ownership of the items when questioned.
Their responses, investigators noted, raised suspicion that the spare parts may have been stolen.
The recovered items have since been retained as exhibits to assist with ongoing investigations, while photographs of the exhibits have also been taken for evidential purposes.
The suspects have been cautioned and their statements taken separately by investigators.
They remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Police have also directed the arresting officers to submit detailed statements on the circumstances leading to the arrest and recovery of the items.
Investigators are expected to visit relevant locations and follow up on intelligence gathered during the operation in an effort to identify and apprehend any additional suspects who may be connected to the alleged theft and possession of the recovered spare parts.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding the ownership of the recovered automobile parts to come forward and assist with investigations.
The case remains under investigation.
