The Eastern Regional Police Command has launched a wider investigation into violent clashes between students of Okuapeman Senior High School (SHS) and Mount Sinai Senior High School, with more than 10 students already arrested.
The violence broke out in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The confrontation reportedly led to reprisal attacks between students of the two schools. It also caused damage to property on both campuses.
Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah said the police expect to arrest more students as the investigation continues.
“We have apprehended them. And there are more,” he said.
The police are also working to identify all students who took part in the disturbances. Some students reportedly left their school compounds when police arrived.
DCOP Owusu-Bempah warned that fleeing the scene would not prevent the police from finding those involved.
The investigation has taken another turn after police uncovered allegations that some teachers may have encouraged students to attack students from the other school.
According to the police commander, investigators have obtained the names of teachers allegedly connected to the incident. He said they would be arrested if evidence confirms their involvement.
“We have the names of the teachers. They have nowhere to go. At the appropriate time, we will arrest all of them, and their names will be published,” he warned.
The police have assured the public that the investigation will cover everyone suspected of participating in the violence, regardless of their position.
The clashes also left six students of Okuapeman SHS injured and in need of medical care. The school’s Headmaster said four students had been treated and discharged, while two were still receiving treatment as of Wednesday.
Several facilities on the two campuses were damaged during the confrontation. The exact cause of the initial dispute, however, has not yet been established.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has appealed to students and other stakeholders to cooperate with investigators and avoid actions that could interfere with the probe.
The investigation is continuing to establish what triggered the clashes, the full extent of the damage and everyone involved in the violence.
