A 32-year-old man suspected of involvement in a series of recent shooting incidents in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region has died after sustaining gunshot wounds during an intelligence-led police-military operation.
The operation, conducted by the Upper East Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Military, forms part of efforts to clamp down on recent shooting incidents and other firearm-related offences in the area.
The deceased, identified as Isaka Sabani, alias “Culture,” was found with an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition, according to the Police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Sabani was wanted in connection with a case of attempted murder and unlawful discharge of firearms reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026.
The Police also suspect him of involvement in separate shooting incidents reported at Agenda 111, Aniisi and Gumyoko in the Binduri District on August 29, 30 and 31 respectively.
The latest operation follows heightened security concerns in the district after the reported incidents.
The Police said the intelligence-led operation was carried out as part of measures to identify and apprehend persons suspected of being behind the recent firearm-related offences.
The firearm and ammunition recovered from the suspect have been taken into custody as investigations continue.
The Police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading to the suspect sustaining the gunshot wounds.
The Upper East Regional Police Command said it will continue working with other security agencies and stakeholders to apprehend other persons suspected to be involved in the incidents.
“The Upper East Regional Police Command will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies and all other stakeholders to bring all other perpetrators to justice and ensure security, law and order in the region.”
The Police have urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and provide relevant information that could assist investigations and help maintain peace in the region.
