The Ghana Police Service has cautioned motorists and vehicle owners against the unauthorised use of sirens, horns, strobe lights and other emergency warning devices.
In a statement issued on July 7, 2026, the Police Service said the use of such devices without lawful approval is prohibited under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
The Service explained that the misuse of emergency warning equipment creates unnecessary panic among road users, contributes to indiscipline on the roads and poses a threat to public safety.
The Police have therefore directed all persons who have installed sirens, strobe lights and similar devices on their vehicles without authorisation under Regulation 74 of L.I. 2180 to remove them immediately.
According to the Service, nationwide enforcement operations are already underway, with several offenders arrested for violating the regulations.
The Police added that the exercise will be intensified across the country to ensure compliance, improve road safety and promote discipline among motorists.
The Service urged the public to cooperate with the enforcement efforts as part of measures to maintain order and safety on Ghana’s roads.
