The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has officially inaugurated the J.K. Horgle Transport and Logistics Centre of Excellence to promote research, professional training and innovation within Ghana’s transport and logistics sector.
The unveiling ceremony, held at the UPSA campus in Accra, brought together key stakeholders from academia, government and industry, including the Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC, Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng, Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, Deputy Minister for Transport, Mrs. Dorcas Affo Toffey, members of the University’s Governing Council, faculty members, students and industry leaders.
The newly established centre is expected to serve as a hub for research, executive education, professional certification, policy development and collaboration between academia and industry.
It is aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical industry experience while supporting the development of highly skilled professionals to drive growth and transformation in Ghana’s transport and logistics industry.
Delivering the keynote address at the event, Mr. Agyenim-Boateng spoke on the theme, “Transforming Transport and Logistics Through Innovation, Research and Professional Excellence.”
He highlighted the importance of innovation, research and continuous professional development in improving efficiency and competitiveness within the sector.
The centre is named after renowned transport and logistics entrepreneur, Dr. Joseph Kweku Horgle, in recognition of his significant contributions to Ghana’s petroleum haulage industry and his commitment to professionalism, safety and operational excellence over the years.
The establishment of the centre is expected to strengthen industry-academic collaboration and contribute to the development of a modern and efficient transport and logistics sector capable of supporting Ghana’s economic growth and industrialisation agenda
