The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in Accra on June 21, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the police, the arrests followed a search operation that led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and communication equipment.
The items retrieved included five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication devices.
The police disclosed that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on a special assignment, responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, popularly known as Akofena, when Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and sought entry into the premises but was denied access.
Investigators further established that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to the former legislator.
Police also confirmed that Adwoa Safo’s vehicle sustained multiple gunshot damages during the confrontation.
The six suspects, together with the recovered weapons and other exhibits, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
The Police Service said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have been involved in the incident.
The statement was signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Regional Police Command.
