The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has urged retail fuel outlet operators and bulk road vehicle drivers to strictly comply with regulatory requirements to promote safety and maintain standards in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
Speaking at a stakeholder workshop, the Director of Business Development at the NPA, Godwin Yaw Konu, warned that practices such as sourcing fuel from unauthorised suppliers, operating without the required regulatory documentation, and engaging in fuel siphoning pose significant risks to the industry.
He said such activities could compromise fuel quality, damage the reputation of petroleum service providers, and undermine public confidence in the sector.
Mr. Konu cautioned that the Authority would not hesitate to sanction and prosecute Petroleum Service Providers (PSPs) and their agents found engaging in illegal petroleum-related activities.
The workshop was organised to educate fuel dealers and tanker drivers on the NPA’s compliance requirements, provide a platform to discuss operational challenges, and identify measures to improve regulatory compliance across the industry.
Officials from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) also participated in the programme, offering practical training on fire prevention and firefighting techniques.
The officers further advised tanker drivers to adhere to road safety regulations, respect other road users, and adopt defensive driving practices to reduce road traffic accidents involving fuel tankers.
