SIC Insurance PLC has donated 60 laptop computers to the “Support One Needy Student with One Laptop” (SONSOL) Project at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to support brilliant but financially challenged students.
The donation was made by the company’s Managing Director, James Agyenim-Boateng, as part of SIC Insurance’s continued commitment to promoting education and youth empowerment.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Agyenim-Boateng said the company has remained committed to the SONSOL Project over the years and will continue to honour its pledge of supporting deserving students with access to technology.
“Long before my tenure, SIC Insurance PLC made a commitment to support deserving students through the SONSOL Project, and we are proud to continue honouring that promise,” he said.
He emphasised that education remains one of the most important investments a country can make, adding that talented students should not be limited by financial challenges or lack of access to digital tools.
“As a company with a strong commitment to social responsibility, we are fulfilling our annual pledge,” he added.
Receiving the laptops on behalf of KNUST, Vice-Chancellor Prof Rita Akosua Dickson expressed appreciation to SIC Insurance PLC for its continued support, describing the gesture as one that would positively transform the lives of beneficiaries.
She noted that the laptops would not only benefit the students directly but would also contribute to improving the wellbeing of their families, communities and the nation as a whole.
“While these sixty laptops will change the destiny of brilliant but needy students, they will also improve the welfare of entire families and, consequently, communities and our nation,” Prof. Dickson said.
She added that KNUST’s global contribution through its graduates makes the support from SIC Insurance an investment in the broader development of humanity.
In recognition of Prof. Dickson’s leadership and contributions to the university, Mr. Agyenim-Boateng, on behalf of SIC Insurance, presented her with a framed piece of art as a token of appreciation.
He cited the SONSOL Project, among other initiatives, as an example of the innovative programmes introduced during her tenure.
