The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has officially introduced Nana Yaw Amoah-Yeboah as the new Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), replacing Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor.
At a ceremony to welcome the new head of the agency, the Minister commended Dr. Kevor for his contributions to NITA’s growth, particularly in strengthening the National Data Centre and advancing key digital government initiatives.
Mr. George said the new Director-General takes over at a critical period as government prepares to introduce major reforms aimed at improving Ghana’s digital sector.
He disclosed that the proposed NITA Act, when passed by Parliament, will provide a stronger governance and regulatory framework for the agency by separating its regulatory responsibilities from its commercial operations.
The Minister also announced measures to strengthen the management of Ghana’s national digital infrastructure, stating that all payments related to NITA-managed infrastructure will henceforth be made directly to the agency.
According to him, the move is intended to protect public assets, improve accountability and enhance operational efficiency.
Mr. George further stressed the need for effective regulation to support innovation while safeguarding Ghana’s growing digital and fintech ecosystem.
Introducing the new Director-General, the Minister described Nana Yaw Amoah-Yeboah as an experienced technology professional with more than a decade of experience in the information technology sector and extensive involvement in major government digital transformation projects.
He urged him to promote teamwork, maintain an open-door leadership approach and build on NITA’s achievements as the agency transitions into a stronger digital regulator.
The Board Chair of NITA, Estelle Akofio-Sowah, expressed confidence in the ability of the new Director-General to lead the agency through its next phase of development.
She assured him of the Board’s support and encouraged him to leverage the expertise of NITA’s staff to advance Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
In his acceptance remarks, Nana Yaw Amoah-Yeboah thanked the government and the Minister for the confidence placed in him, pledging to work closely with the Board, management and staff to strengthen NITA.
He said his focus would be on building a secure, innovative and digitally inclusive public service in line with government’s vision for Ghana’s digital transformation.
