Two eyewitnesses have provided accounts of the incident at Kwabenya that left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, with a reported gunshot injury, as police continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case.
The witnesses, who spoke anonymously to reporters, claimed they were assisting with traffic control at the venue when the incident occurred.
One witness alleged that he observed a firearm being pointed from a black Toyota SUV and later realised that the vehicle was being driven by Adwoa Safo.
According to him, he initially mistook the vehicle for that of someone he knew before identifying the former legislator behind the wheel.
He further claimed that Adwoa Safo attempted to drive through the entrance gate and that he recognised one of her security personnel inside the vehicle.
The witness stated that although he saw the bodyguard in the vehicle, he did not observe him firing any weapon, adding that the individual appeared to be making a phone call at the time.
He also maintained that Adwoa Safo left the scene without any visible injuries and said he could not explain how bullet holes later appeared on her vehicle.
While insisting that he saw a firearm protruding from the vehicle, the witness said he was unable to identify who discharged the weapon.
A second eyewitness similarly alleged that a vehicle approached the venue at high speed, forcing him to move out of its path.
According to him, the vehicle struck the entrance gates multiple times before moving toward another gate, which it also reportedly hit.
He claimed that shortly after the incident, he heard approximately six gunshots.
The witness further alleged that Adwoa Safo later confronted him after he warned security personnel to clear the area because of the vehicle’s speed.
He recounted that she accused him of alerting security officers to her movements and allegedly threatened him.
The second witness also stated that he later observed bullet holes on the vehicle but could not determine how they had been caused or who initiated the shooting.
Like the first witness, he said he did not observe any visible injuries on Adwoa Safo at the scene, despite subsequent reports suggesting she had sustained injuries.
He further claimed that he did not see any firearms in the possession of security personnel stationed at the event.
The witness also disputed reports that the gathering was intended to install a family head, insisting that the programme was related to the selection of a new leader for the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The eyewitness accounts emerge amid ongoing investigations by the Ghana Police Service, which has already arrested several private security guards in connection with the incident.
Authorities say investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and the events that unfolded at the Kwabenya property
