The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has assured Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Central Region that the region will be a major beneficiary of the government’s electricity expansion and infrastructure improvement programme.
The assurance was given by the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, who welcomed the Central Regional MMDCEs to the ministry on behalf of the Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor.
The meeting focused on key energy-related development priorities affecting the region, including electricity extension projects, transformer shortages, street lighting, renewable energy opportunities, developments in the petroleum sector and the long-term improvement of the region’s energy infrastructure.
According to the Deputy Minister, the Central Region has been identified as one of the key beneficiaries under President John Dramani Mahama’s “Big Push” development agenda and has been included in the first phase of electricity intensification and improvement projects.
He said the initiative is expected to enhance access to reliable electricity and support socio-economic development across the region.
Mr. Gyan-Mensah also commended the MMDCEs for their efforts in driving development within their respective districts and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with local authorities to improve energy infrastructure and accelerate development in the Central Region.
