The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to revitalising Ghana’s petroleum sector as a key driver of economic growth, energy security and job creation.
Dr Jinapor made the remarks while joining stakeholders at this year’s Ghana Day at Africa Oil Week.
According to the Minister, the renewed interest from investors in Ghana’s petroleum industry is encouraging and reflects growing confidence in the country’s oil and gas potential.
He cited the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding involving the Government of Ghana, Shell Overseas Holding Limited, Chevron Sub-Saharan African Ventures Limited and GNPC Exploration and Production Limited on the South Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points Block as a strong demonstration of investor confidence in Ghana’s petroleum sector.
Dr Jinapor said government is determined to build on the momentum by reviewing the legislative and fiscal framework governing the upstream petroleum sector.
He explained that the reforms are aimed at making Ghana more competitive and attractive to investors, particularly in deepwater, ultra-deepwater and frontier exploration, while safeguarding the country’s national interests.
“These reforms are currently before Cabinet and, following approval, will be transmitted to Parliament,” the Minister stated.
Dr Jinapor further assured potential investors that Ghana remains open for business and is prepared to partner with investors committed to sustainable growth and meaningful in-country value creation.
He said the government’s focus is to create a conducive investment environment that will unlock the full potential of Ghana’s petroleum resources and deliver greater economic benefits to the country.
