Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has called for strict compliance with guidelines and standards governing the importation, retrofitting, use and decommissioning of Armoured Bullion Vehicles (ABVs) in Ghana.
He said effective regulation of ABVs was critical to safeguarding public safety, strengthening national security, facilitating legitimate trade and ensuring compliance with existing regulatory requirements.
The Deputy Minister made the call in Accra when he addressed participants at a one-day sensitisation workshop organised for officers of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
He stressed the need for stakeholders, particularly those involved in the importation, modification and operation of armoured bullion vehicles, to adhere strictly to established standards.
According to Mr. Terlabi, proper regulation of ABVs was essential given their role in the transportation of cash and other valuables, as well as the potential security risks associated with their improper use.
He urged the Customs Division to ensure that vehicles entering the country met the prescribed requirements and that relevant procedures were followed throughout their operational lifespan.
