TDC Ghana Limited has donated a brand-new 26-seater Foton CS2 New View bus to the Tema Traditional Council in the Greater Accra Region as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at supporting institutions within its operational areas.
The bus, which is fitted with central air conditioning, is expected to support the Council’s official activities and engagements.
The company also presented a cash donation, five 25kg bags of rice, three bags of sugar, six cartons of assorted drinks and fifty packs of bottled water to the traditional authority.
In addition, TDC Ghana pledged to provide monthly fuel support of GHS500 for the next four years to assist with the operational costs of maintaining the vehicle.
Speaking to the media the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Courage Nunekpeku Makafui, said the donation reflects the company’s commitment to giving back to communities and supporting institutions that contribute to local development.
He explained that the support was in response to a request from the Tema Traditional Council, adding that although the company operates with limited resources, it remains willing to assist with important community needs.
Mr. Makafui also called on traditional leaders to strengthen efforts to stop the illegal sale of lands, particularly those located along waterways, warning that such activities contribute to flooding and the destruction of lives and property.
He disclosed that TDC Ghana will soon commence a demolition exercise targeting illegal structures constructed on waterways, stressing that the company will no longer tolerate developments that put communities at risk.
“This cannot be business as usual,” he cautioned.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Tema Traditional Council, Nii Amarh Sokpo, the Shipi of the Council, expressed appreciation to TDC Ghana, describing the donation as timely and beneficial to the Council’s operations.
He assured the company that the bus would be properly maintained and used for its intended purpose.
Nii Amarh Sokpo acknowledged concerns over illegal land sales within the Tema area, particularly those affecting waterways, but noted that financial limitations sometimes affect the Council’s ability to address such challenges.
He appealed for continued support from TDC Ghana and other stakeholders, while pledging the Council’s commitment to tackling irresponsible land practices.
He added that the recent flooding incidents, which affected communities across the country, highlighted the need for collective action to protect lives, property and the environment through responsible land management.
