The government has announced plans to construct a 1,200-megawatt (MW) state-owned power plant as part of efforts to improve the reliability and affordability of electricity supply in Ghana.
Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed the initiative in a post on Facebook, saying the project would contribute to a more reliable and affordable power supply.
“We are building a 1,200-megawatt state-owned power plant to deliver more reliable and affordable electricity!” Dr Ato Forson stated.
The announcement forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s power generation capacity and address challenges affecting the electricity sector.
The planned facility is expected to add significant generation capacity to the national electricity supply system and support growing demand for power.
The government has also emphasised the need to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the energy sector while ensuring that households and businesses have access to reliable electricity.
