The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in Bolgatanga over their alleged involvement in a human trafficking network that reportedly forced young women into prostitution at Gbane in the Talensi District.
The suspects, identified as Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy, are alleged to have recruited victims from Nigeria under the pretext of offering opportunities in Ghana’s film industry.
Preliminary investigations suggest that one victim was lured from Nigeria by Peace Agbede, who promised to support her pursuit of a career in acting due to her appearance.
However, upon arrival in Ghana, she was allegedly taken to Gbane-Tongo and forced into sex work instead.
Police further allege that the victim was made to pay GHS400 daily to her handler.
The situation reportedly escalated after she gave birth on 26 June 2026, when the suspects allegedly attempted to pressure her into selling her newborn baby for GHS20,000.
During a search at one of the suspects’ residences, officers reportedly found sales record books containing multiple names as well as 265 unused condoms, which investigators say form part of ongoing evidence.
Four other young women, aged between 18 and 20, were rescued during the operation.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
