Former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have clarified that they have not endorsed Kennedy Agyapong’s presidential bid, contrary to recent claims circulating in the media.
Speaking during a press briefing after a closed-door meeting with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday, June 23, 2025, the former MMDCEs officially declared their support for Dr. Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for its flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Addressing journalists, former Adentan MCE Ebenezer Doku debunked earlier reports that 268 former MMDCEs had endorsed Kennedy Agyapong during a meeting at his private residence.
“I was there myself, but we did not hold any support. His assertion that over 250 came to endorse him. is false. Today, we are reading a statement on behalf of all of us. There was no statement about read at Kennedy Agyapong’s house. We spoke, we wined, and we left. Today we are throwing our support with a statement.”
The clarification comes in the wake of reports suggesting that a large number of former MMDCEs had endorsed Agyapong, a six-term Member of Parliament and flagbearer hopeful, during a meeting on June 19.
Those reports described the endorsement as a major win for Agyapong’s campaign. Meanwhile, the NPP has set Saturday, January 31, 2026, for its Presidential primaries.
