The Ministry of Sports and Recreation says it spent approximately $1.26 million to procure 2,922 tickets for Ghana’s group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tickets cover Ghana’s fixtures against Panama, England and Croatia, with 948 tickets procured for the Panama match, 1,000 for the England game and 974 for the Croatia fixture.

Appearing before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee on Thursday, September 17, 2026, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, said the tickets were procured for distribution and were not intended for sale.

He explained that the cost included a 10% administrative charge permitted by FIFA on the face value of the tickets.

“We spent about $1.26 million in the procurement of the 2,922 tickets,” Mr Adams told the committee.

For Ghana’s opening group-stage match against Panama, the Ministry procured 948 tickets, including 100 Category One tickets with a FIFA face value of $450 each and an actual cost of $495 after the 10% administrative charge.

Other categories procured for the Panama fixture included supporter premium, supporter standard, supporter value and supporter entry tickets, each carrying different face values and corresponding costs after the administrative charge.

For the England match, the Ministry procured 1,000 tickets, including 100 Category One tickets with a face value of $600 and an actual cost of $660 each after the administrative charge.

A further 974 tickets were procured for Ghana’s match against Croatia, including 100 Category One tickets with a FIFA face value of $500 and an actual cost of $550 each.

Mr Adams said the tickets were distributed among members of the Ghana Supporters Union, Ghana’s High Commissions in Canada and the United States, Ghanaians living in the diaspora, the Ghana Students Association, the official government delegation and selected officials of the Ghana Football Association.

According to the Minister, the initial plan was to allocate more than 800 tickets to supporters, with the remainder distributed among Ghanaians and other identified groups.

However, visa application challenges at some centres affected the original arrangement.

He said the Ministry subsequently decided to allocate more tickets to Ghanaians already living in the diaspora, who would not face the same visa-related difficulties.

“The decision was taken that we will give many more of the tickets to Ghanaians who are already in the diaspora to be able to pay,” Mr Adams told the committee.

The Minister’s appearance before the committee formed part of Parliament’s scrutiny of preparations and expenditure relating to Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup
