The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has rallied behind Principal Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Bafoh following her remand by the Adenta Circuit Court over an alleged social media-related offence.
Bafoh was remanded into custody on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after she pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime, to wit publication of false news.
The case centres on allegations that Bafoh assisted Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof”, in distributing videos published through the TikTok account.
Prosecutors allege that Bafoh recruited other people to redistribute the videos and that money was transferred to her from Kodua in connection with the alleged activities. Kodua, who is reportedly based in the United Kingdom, is currently at large.
The court refused Bafoh’s bail application after the prosecution said investigations were still ongoing.
The prosecution also argued that the allegations touched on national security. Bafoh’s lawyers had argued that she had a permanent job, a fixed residence and a young child whose welfare depended on her.
Following the court proceedings, GRNMA 1st Vice President Mr Samuel Alagkora Akolgo (Esq) led a team from the Association to the court to show solidarity with Bafoh.
The Association said it is also engaging her lawyers as it explores legal avenues for her early release.
“The leadership of the Association is in touch with her lawyers to explore all legal remedies for her early release,” the GRNMA stated.
The Association has called on nurses and midwives to remain calm while its national leadership works through the matter.
“All members are strongly urged to remain calm but resolute as National Leadership navigates this legal hurdle,” it said.
Bafoh is expected to return to court as the legal process continues, while the GRNMA says it will provide members with further updates as developments unfold.
