President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in three new Justices of the Supreme Court at a ceremony held at Jubilee House.
The newly appointed Justices are Sophia Rosetta Bernasko-Essah, Edward Amoako Asante and Anthony Forson Jnr.
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joined President Mahama at the ceremony, which formally marked the elevation of the three jurists to Ghana’s highest court.
The Supreme Court serves as the country’s final judicial authority, with responsibility for interpreting the Constitution, determining questions of national importance and contributing to the development of Ghana’s laws.
In a statement, the Vice President congratulated the three Justices on their elevation and urged them to recognise the significant responsibility that comes with serving on the highest court of the land.
She said the new Justices were expected to discharge their duties faithfully and in accordance with the Constitution.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang wished Justices Bernasko-Essah, Amoako Asante and Forson Jnr well as they assumed their new responsibilities on the Supreme Court.
