The Ghana AIDS Commission says it cannot confirm claims that security agencies breached confidentiality protocols during the recruitment process involving persons alleged to have tested positive for HIV.
The Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, speaking at a press conference, said the Commission had not received any evidence indicating that security services were involved in revealing the HIV status of any applicant during the selection process.
According to the Commission, no individual has been officially identified, named or tagged as being HIV positive by any security institution.
The Director-General stressed that HIV status is protected information and that all institutions involved in health screening and recruitment processes are expected to uphold strict confidentiality.
He added that the security services have maintained confidentiality in handling medical information relating to applicants and cautioned against spreading claims that could lead to stigma and discrimination against persons living with HIV.
The Commission reiterated the need for the public to rely on verified information and avoid actions that could expose individuals to unnecessary harm or violate their rights.
