The Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), Kale Cesar, has expressed satisfaction with the newly procured fleet of buses, describing the development as a significant step toward improving public transport services in Ghana.
This follows a government inspection of 100 new Isuzu buses imported from Egypt as part of efforts to address transport challenges and enhance mobility nationwide.
Speaking during the inspection led by the Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Mr. Cesar highlighted key features of the buses and commended stakeholders for delivering on their commitments.
“As we requested. Cameras inside. Cameras, yeah, cameras inside. Yeah. As we requested for,” he said, indicating that the buses have been fitted with surveillance systems to improve safety and monitoring.
He added, “I think it’s after this that we’ll now put the carcass inside. So we are actually well satisfied and we will use this opportunity to thank Mark O’Toole for keeping to their word.”
Mr. Cesar further disclosed that the current batch forms part of a broader plan to expand the MMTL fleet, with additional deliveries expected in the coming months.
“This is just the beginning because first 100 buses are here. In July, August, the next 100 buses will come. Then in September, October, the next, the last fleet, 100 will also come,” he stated.
He also revealed that engagements are ongoing with other suppliers to further strengthen the company’s fleet.
“These are not the only vehicles we are expecting from our vendors. Through the directions and advice and guidance of his excellency the president, we’ve also engaged other prospective suppliers,” he said.
Mr. Cesar assured the public that more details on additional procurements would be made known soon, noting that some vehicles are already en route to Ghana.
“And I can assure you in the coming months, we’ll disclose to you who are also giving us some of the vehicles, which are already, some are already on the high seas,” he added.
The 29-seater buses are expected to be handed over to MMTL to boost capacity, improve reliability, and ease congestion within the public transport system.
