Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has paid the outstanding medical bills of a 49-year-old patient who had remained at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for more than six weeks after being unable to afford his discharge.
The intervention followed a routine visit by the MP to the facility, where he encountered the patient’s 13-year-old daughter, who was reportedly caring for her father on her own throughout his admission.
Touched by the family’s circumstances, the legislator settled the full hospital debt, enabling the patient to return home after weeks of financial hardship.
Beyond clearing the medical expenses, Mr. Baafi also presented the family with GH¢1,000 to cater for their transportation back home, offering additional support as they prepared to leave the hospital.
