All seven petitions filed for the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, her two deputies, and the Special Prosecutor have been officially dismissed by President John Dramani Mahama.
This comes after the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, informed President John Dramani Mahama that the petitions did not establish a prima facie case warranting further action.
In a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President, the Presidency explained that the petitions had been submitted in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959).
The Chief Justice reviewed the submissions, which included allegations of misbehaviour, cronyism, abuse of office, and incompetence, but concluded that they were insufficient to justify removal.
The petitions, originally filed between November 2025 and January 2026, had sought the dismissal of EC Chair Jean Mensa, Deputy Chairpersons Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, as well as Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyabeng.
Following the Chief Justice’s review, the President has confirmed that no further investigations or actions will be taken regarding these claims.
The Presidency emphasized that the decision follows the constitutional and legal processes, ensuring that all petitions are evaluated fairly and transparently before any action is taken.
