The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects after intercepting a commercial vehicle transporting a large quantity of ammunition through an unauthorised route outside Wa.
According to a police statement, the operation was carried out on Monday, June 29, during a targeted security exercise in the region.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 200 boxes of AA cartridges, containing a total of 50,000 rounds of ammunition, concealed beneath other goods.
The suspects have been identified as Alhassan Issahaku, Iddrisu Mashood and Alhaji Issahaku.
They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Police Command said investigations are underway to establish the source and intended destination of the ammunition, as well as identify any other individuals connected to the shipment.
The Command commended the officers who carried out the operation for their vigilance, professionalism and dedication.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing crime and maintaining peace and security across the Upper West Region.
