Tension emerged within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mfantseman Constituency, as more than 180 polling station coordinators threaten legal action to stop the constituency executive elections.
The aggrieved coordinators are seeking an injunction over concerns about the choice of venue for the elections and delays in the release of the party’s electoral album.
Addressing a press conference at the NPP constituency office in Mankessim, the leader of the group, Eric Kwesi Baffoe, described the decision to hold the elections at the residence of the incumbent Constituency Chairman, who is also contesting to retain his position, as inappropriate and a threat to the credibility of the process.
Mr. Baffoe argued that using the home of a candidate as a polling centre could compromise the fairness of the election, adding that there are several neutral and accessible venues within the constituency that could host the exercise.
He also raised concerns over the delay in providing delegates with the certified electoral album ahead of the polls, which are scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2026.
According to him, some polling station coordinators have reported discrepancies, including missing names and inconsistencies in the provisional register, preventing delegates from confirming their eligibility to vote.
The group has therefore demanded that the election venue be changed to a neutral location and that the verified delegates’ album be released and audited before the polls are conducted.
The coordinators warned that they would boycott the election if their concerns are not addressed, insisting that conducting the exercise under the current arrangements would undermine internal democracy within the party.
They accused the constituency executives of taking decisions that could deepen divisions within the party and urged the NPP’s National Executive Committee to intervene to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
The aggrieved members cautioned that failure to resolve the matter could create tension and disrupt the peaceful conduct of the constituency elections.
