Parliament has approved the nominations of Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to serve as Ministers for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Environment, Science and Technology respectively.
The two nominees secured the approval of the House after appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026, for vetting.
Mr Ayariga, a former Majority Leader and Chairman of Parliament’s Business Committee, was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to head the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
In his new role, he will be responsible for key areas including local governance, chieftaincy administration and matters relating to religious affairs.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, meanwhile, has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, where she is expected to oversee government policies on environmental protection, scientific research, technological advancement and sustainable development.
Following their vetting, the Appointments Committee recommended both nominees for approval by the House.
Parliament subsequently endorsed the recommendations, clearing the way for Mr Ayariga and Dr Agyeman-Rawlings to formally assume their respective ministerial responsibilities.
Their approval forms part of President Mahama’s broader efforts to strengthen his administration and advance the implementation of the government’s policy priorities.
