Camilla Alhassan has appeared before the court for sentencing after pleading guilty to charges relating to statements she allegedly made against President John Dramani Mahama and other public figures.
The case involves a series of allegations she is said to have made, including claims concerning the President, his family members and other government officials.
The statements, which have been described as serious and defamatory by the complainants, are the subject of the legal proceedings.
Among the claims attributed to her are allegations involving President Mahama’s personal conduct, accusations against his brother Ibrahim Mahama, and claims concerning other public figures, including Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George.
The allegations include claims of criminal wrongdoing and misconduct, all of which have been contested and formed the basis of the charges brought against her.
During proceedings, Camilla Alhassan pleaded guilty to the charges, paving the way for the court to proceed with sentencing.
The court is expected to consider the circumstances surrounding the case, the plea of guilty and submissions from both sides before determining the appropriate sentence.
Authorities and the complainants have maintained that individuals must be held accountable for statements that allegedly damage reputations or make unsubstantiated accusations against others.
