The Parliamentary Committee on Energy has praised the National Petroleum Authority for what it describes as consistent transparency and cooperation in its regulatory work.
Chairman of the Committee, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, said the Authority’s openness strengthens parliamentary oversight and improves accountability in the downstream petroleum sector.
He made the remarks during a monitoring visit to the NPA in Accra, stressing the importance of continuous engagement between regulators and Parliament.
“We are here today reflects the importance of that responsibility and the need for continued oversight,” he said.
In his response, Chief Executive of the NPA, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, highlighted the central role of the petroleum downstream sector in national life and governance.
“Everything in our daily lives is connected to the petroleum downstream,” he stated, adding that Parliament, through the NPA Act of 2005, entrusted the Authority with regulatory oversight.
Mr. Tameklo explained that the Authority’s work covers the full value chain of petroleum distribution, from importation to retail, including licensing and enforcement activities.
“Operating without a licence is a clear violation of the law, and the Authority is committed to enforcing regulations with consistency, integrity, and fairness,” he said.
He also outlined consumer protection measures, including fuel quality monitoring systems designed to prevent adulteration and ensure standards compliance.
On pricing, he noted that the Uniform Petroleum Pricing Policy helps ensure fairness across regions.
The visit also featured technical presentations from NPA directors on regulatory systems, compliance mechanisms, and industry operations.
