The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has tasked the management of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to strengthen preventive maintenance, system monitoring and restoration preparedness to ensure a more reliable electricity transmission network.
Dr Jinapor made the call when he joined GRIDCo’s 13th Annual General Meeting, where the company reviewed its performance for the 2025 financial year.
GRIDCo recorded a strong operational and financial performance during the year, transmitting a record 25,860 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity and posting a profit after tax of GHS584.46 million.
The company also recorded improved reliability and availability across its transmission network.
Dr Jinapor commended the Board, Management and staff of GRIDCo for the achievements and praised their professionalism in restoring power following the Akosombo incident.
He urged the company to strengthen preventive maintenance, system monitoring and protection coordination while improving its preparedness to respond to system disturbances.
According to the Minister, every fault within the transmission system must provide an opportunity for learning, with identified weaknesses followed by concrete corrective action.
He further called on GRIDCo to embrace innovative technologies to enhance the reliability and efficiency of its operations.
Dr Jinapor assured the company of government’s continued support for critical investments in the transmission sector, including the Eastern Corridor Transmission Backbone, as part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s generation capacity and energy security.
He stressed that increased generation capacity must be matched by a resilient transmission network capable of delivering reliable power to consumers across the country.
The Minister said the government’s objective was to restore GRIDCo’s position as one of Africa’s most reliable, innovative and financially sustainable transmission utilities.
He added that a stronger transmission system remained critical to delivering the dependable electricity service Ghanaians deserve.
