The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has secured strong international support for Ghana’s responsible sourcing, artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) formalisation, traceability, and value-addition agenda at the Sustainability and Responsible Sourcing Summit 2026 held in London.
The summit was organised by the London Bullion Market Association and the World Gold Council, bringing together key stakeholders in the global precious metals industry to discuss sustainability and responsible sourcing standards.
GoldBod was specially invited to participate in a high-level roundtable of the International Bullion Centres Association, in recognition of Ghana’s growing importance within the global gold value chain.
Representing GoldBod, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Richard Nunekpeku presented Ghana’s regulatory reforms and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening responsible sourcing, improving traceability systems, formalising ASM operations, and promoting local refining and value addition.
A key outcome of the discussions was recognition by the LBMA of Ghana’s expanding strategic role in the international precious metals market, as well as its commitment to exploring policy frameworks that could enhance global recognition of Ghana as a significant market participant.
The LBMA also expressed support for GoldBod’s traceability and ASM formalisation agenda, describing the initiatives as essential to improving responsible sourcing practices and safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s gold supply chain.
As part of this collaboration, the LBMA pledged to work closely with GoldBod to advance internationally aligned traceability systems, responsible sourcing standards, and compliance frameworks for the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
It further indicated its intention to support the development of practical tools and industry best practices to enhance transparency, strengthen audit processes, and facilitate the gradual integration of Ghana’s ASM sector into global responsible gold supply chains.
