The Director of Legal Affairs of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Tameklo, has criticised the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its Minority Caucus over comments on President John Dramani Mahama’s response to the recent floods in Accra.
Mr. Tameklo, reacting to claims by some NPP figures that President Mahama should have assessed the impact of the June 29 devastating floods by walking through affected communities, said such suggestions were unrealistic.
In a post on his Facebook page, the NDC legal director questioned the practicality of such expectations, noting that managing a crisis situation requires careful coordination and effective response measures.
“It is not easy,” Mr. Tameklo stated in response to the criticism from the opposition.
His comments follow remarks by some members of the NPP and the Minority Leader in Parliament, who have criticised the President’s handling of the flood situation and argued that a physical walk-through of affected areas would have demonstrated stronger solidarity with victims.
The June 29 downpour caused widespread flooding in parts of Accra, disrupting movement, damaging properties, and affecting several communities.
Government officials have since outlined measures aimed at responding to the impact of the floods, including relief efforts and interventions to improve drainage and flood management.
