The Ghana Export-Import Bank (Ghana EXIM Bank) has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), reaffirming its commitment to sustainable finance, responsible business practices and ethical corporate governance.
The Bank formally joined the global initiative during a signing ceremony in Accra on Thursday, July 2, becoming part of a worldwide network of organisations committed to advancing sustainability through the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer Sylvester Adinam Mensah described the move as a major step in the Bank’s sustainability agenda.
“Today marks a significant milestone for Ghana Export-Import Bank. We are honoured to officially join the United Nations Global Compact, aligning our operations with its Ten Principles across human rights, labour, environment, anti-corruption and other critical areas. By embracing these principles, we reaffirm our commitment to conducting business in a responsible, ethical and sustainable manner.”

Mr. Mensah said the Bank had already taken significant steps to integrate sustainability into its operations, including adopting an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policy and establishing a Sustainability and Strategic Impact Department.
According to him, membership of the UN Global Compact will further strengthen the Bank’s efforts to promote sustainable development and enhance transparency through improved impact reporting.
“It also signalled our intent to move beyond ambition into action by ensuring that sustainability is not an isolated initiative, but a core part of our operations.”
Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network Ghana, Tolu Kweku Lacroix, welcomed Ghana EXIM Bank into the network and pledged the organisation’s support in implementing the Compact’s principles and advancing sustainable business practices.
