The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that the government has not received any official resignation from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz despite speculation surrounding the Portuguese coach’s future.
Speaking on Joy FM on Monday, July 6, Mr. Adams said the coach’s recent social media post could not be considered a formal resignation, insisting that such decisions must follow official communication channels.
“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resigned on social media.
He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” he said.
The uncertainty over Queiroz’s position emerged after the coach shared a message on social media suggesting that his time with the national team had ended.
In the post, Queiroz said he was leaving the journey with pride in what the team achieved, while acknowledging the disappointment of not reaching higher targets.
He also stressed that the future success of the Black Stars would require more than performances on the pitch, highlighting the need for stronger structures to develop, protect and prepare Ghana’s football talent.
However, Mr. Adams said he was yet to have a detailed engagement with the coach following Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He explained that Queiroz is expected to submit a comprehensive technical report covering the team’s preparation, tournament performance and challenges encountered during his short tenure.
“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that.
We have not had the opportunity of engaging him to get a detailed report.
That report will surely come,” the Minister said.
According to him, the report will help identify both technical and administrative issues affecting the national team and guide future decisions.
Mr. Adams agreed with Queiroz’s assessment that improving the Black Stars requires attention to both on-field performance and broader football development structures.
“And he’s right when he says it’s not just going to be on the pitch.
There are off-pitch issues and there are on-pitch issues also,” he added.
Carlos Queiroz was appointed as Black Stars head coach on April 23, 2026, following the departure of Otto Addo, with a mandate to lead Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Sports Minister had earlier indicated that Queiroz’s appointment was based on a short-term contract of about four months, with any possible extension dependent on an assessment of his performance.
