The President of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, has called on university students to become deep thinkers, lifelong learners, innovators, and responsible leaders capable of thriving in a rapidly changing world shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation.

Addressing a colourful matriculation ceremony held at AIT’s Knowledge City Campus in Kokomlemle, Accra, Professor Dzidonu observed that the future belongs not merely to those who possess academic qualifications, but to individuals who can think independently, adapt quickly, solve complex problems creatively, and make meaningful contributions to society.

The occasion saw 586 newly admitted students formally inducted into the AIT academic community, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter in their educational and professional journeys.

Speaking on the theme, “Preparing the Sovereign Learner for a World of Opportunity, Possibility and Difference,” Professor Dzidonu challenged the students to embrace what he described as

“The Age of the Sovereign Learner”—an era in which individuals must take ownership of their personal growth, learning, and future success.

According to him, universities must go beyond awarding certificates and degrees to nurturing capable human beings equipped with the knowledge, skills, character, and resilience needed to excel in an increasingly complex and technology-driven world.

“The rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation demands graduates who can think for themselves, learn continuously, innovate fearlessly, and lead responsibly,” he stated.

Professor Dzidonu reaffirmed AIT’s commitment to producing graduates who are technically proficient, ethically grounded, intellectually curious, and globally competitive.

He noted that the university remains dedicated to creating an environment that encourages creativity, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, innovation, and professional excellence.

Encouraging the students to adopt the Opportunity–Possibility–Difference (OPD) Perspective, he urged them to develop the ability to recognize opportunities, explore possibilities, and create positive differences wherever they find themselves.

He further advised them to look beyond examinations and certificates and focus on building capability, character, and courage—the essential attributes of successful professionals and transformational leaders.

“Your success at AIT will not depend solely on the resources available to you but on your willingness to learn, your commitment to excellence, your discipline, and your determination to continually improve yourself,” he emphasized.

The matriculating students are pursuing programmes in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Project Management, as well as various postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

On behalf of the matriculating class, Mr. Samuel Peace Kamara expressed appreciation to the university’s leadership, faculty, and staff for the warm reception accorded the new students.

He pledged that the matriculants would uphold the values and traditions of AIT, dedicate themselves to academic excellence, and strive to become responsible professionals capable of making significant contributions to national and global development.

The ceremony concluded with the formal administration of the matriculation oath and the official admission of the students into membership of the university community.

As the newest members of the AIT family embark on their academic journey, they do so with a compelling challenge from the university’s leadership—to become sovereign learners, embrace emerging opportunities, unlock new possibilities, and make a lasting difference in an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven world.

Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) [www.ait.edu.gh], ranked the top private university in Ghana by the Ghana Tertiary Awards, is an independent technology-focused university committed to academic excellence and cutting-edge scientific and industrial research and R&D work.

The University for the 4th Year running won the 2-18 Best Technology University in Ghana Award, instituted and awarded by the Ghana Tertiary Awards. This came at the heels of the Best in Technology-Focused University in Ghana Award by Global Business Insight of the United Kingdom.

AIT is accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to offer both campus-based and Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

AIT is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for the campus-based undergraduate programs in engineering, computer science/IT, and business administration and the Open University of Malaysia for the Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Masters and the Ph.D. level.
