Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has made history after becoming the first Ghanaian player to be named in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year for the 2025/26 season.

Semenyo was recognised at the PFA Awards after a standout campaign in which he scored 17 Premier League goals for AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City, following his £62.5 million move to the latter in January.

His performances earned him a place in a star-studded XI dominated by Arsenal and Manchester City. He was selected alongside Erling Haaland and Brentford’s Igor Thiago in the forward line, with Arsenal players David Raya, Jurriën Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice also making the team.

Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Cherki, as well as Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, completed the selection.

The PFA Team of the Year is voted for by professional footballers, making Semenyo’s inclusion a significant endorsement from his peers after his impressive season.

His historic selection comes as he remains in contention for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, further highlighting the impact of his breakthrough campaign.

For Ghanaian football, the achievement marks a major milestone and underlines Semenyo’s emergence as one of the country’s leading players on the Premier League stage.
